ocmulgee, macon : l ward abel

trans-county

by l. ward abel

Between
Concord and Sandy Point
all my kinfolk
toiled
this tar squeezed
slab of road
testament
to Georgia in august

me

ahem

these many years later
hiding my real name
afraid
to shame
those hardworking
men and women
with my casualty and
sediment
and
self-absorption
and
so-called education
a mandarin
searching
for comfort
on the graves
of the worthy

um

forgive
your cousin.
