13.   December Lullaby

Good night, island, uncharted,
Labyrinthic coral cove
In cotton candy pink,
Velvet sky, violet tree,
Gingerbread running wild on the breeze.
Good night, please.

Good night, sea of emerald cream
And all the graceful creatures within,
Dancing, gossamer and glitter dressed,
And graceless monsters too,
Razor-toothed, with eyes of stone,
Good night, my darlings
Also to you.

Good night island, good night, sea.
The weather calls for picnic days
And my lover stirs muscularly against me.
