legacies

by vernyce dannells

Your image forms in my face as i look in the mirror
the unwanted fat that forms with inattention
clusters in spots i remember warmed a thin hungry childhood
The doctor says that if i'm not careful about food and exercise
I too shall run the sugar in blood that overran your Indian Caribbean body
What else have you left me
with scars bittersweet deep?
